Which cookies we use.
Last updated: 18 June 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how RetroPlayland ("the Operator", "we", "us") uses cookies, local storage and similar technologies on https://retroplayland.com (the "Service"), why we use them, and how you can manage or withdraw your choices. This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and DMCA / Copyright Policy; the Privacy Policy describes in more detail how we process personal data.
A "cookie" is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you return to the site, the cookie allows the site to recognise your browser, remember your preferences and keep you signed in. Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called "first-party" cookies; cookies set by another organisation (for example, an advertising provider) are called "third-party" cookies.
We also use related technologies that work in a similar way, including:
In this policy, we use the word "cookies" broadly to refer to cookies and these similar technologies, unless stated otherwise.
Strictly necessary cookies are required for the Service to function and do not require your consent. For cookies that are not strictly necessary — in particular analytics and advertising cookies — we ask for your consent where this is legally required (for example, for users in the EU, UK and Switzerland) before such cookies are set.
Where required, you are presented with a consent banner or preference control when you first visit the Service, allowing you to accept or reject non-essential cookie categories. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the methods described in Section 8. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew it. For more information on the legal bases we rely on, please see our Privacy Policy.
We group the cookies and similar technologies we use into the following categories.
These cookies are essential for the Service to operate, to keep your session secure, and to provide features you have explicitly requested. They cannot be switched off through our consent controls because the Service would not work properly without them. They include your session cookie (to keep you signed in and maintain your session), the CSRF token (to protect against cross-site request forgery and other security attacks), and your basic experience preferences such as rp-lang (your selected language) and rp-theme (your selected light/dark theme).
These cookies allow the Service to remember choices you make and to provide enhanced, more personal features — for example, remembering interface preferences, recently used settings, and other non-essential customisations that improve your experience. The language and theme cookies (rp-lang, rp-theme) also serve a preference function. If these cookies are disabled, some convenience features may not work as smoothly.
We use privacy-respecting, first-party analytics to understand how visitors use the Service so that we can maintain and improve it. This includes the _rp_sk first-party analytics session key, which helps us measure traffic, distinguish unique sessions, and support automated bot/crawler detection. These statistics are collected on a first-party basis and are not used to build advertising profiles. Where required, these cookies are only set after you have given consent.
The Service is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense and Google ad partners (including DoubleClick / googlesyndication / doubleclick.net domains), which may set third-party cookies on your device for the following purposes:
Where consent is required, personalised advertising cookies are only used after you have given consent. You can learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage your ad preferences at Google Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com).
The table below lists representative examples of cookies and similar technologies used on the Service. The exact names, providers and durations may change over time, and third-party providers may set additional cookies that are outside our direct control.

Strictly necessary cookies (Section 3.1) are always active because the Service cannot function without them; these cannot be disabled through our consent controls, although you can block all cookies via your browser settings (which may break parts of the Service). Functional, analytics and advertising cookies are optional and, where legally required, are only used with your consent.
Some cookies are set by third parties, in particular Google and its ad partners. We do not control these third-party cookies, and their use is governed by the relevant third party's own privacy and cookie policies. The Service may also contain links to external websites; we are not responsible for the cookies or privacy practices of those external sites, and we encourage you to review their policies. Please refer to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for further information on third-party content and external links.
You have several ways to control cookies and similar technologies:
Where the consent banner is shown, you can accept or reject non-essential categories when you first visit, and you can revisit the consent control at any time to change or withdraw your choices.
Most browsers let you view, block or delete cookies and clear local storage through their settings. You can usually set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, to refuse them, or to delete them automatically. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent the Service, or parts of it, from working correctly, and you may need to re-enter preferences such as language and theme.
You can manage how Google personalises ads to you, including opting out of personalised advertising, at Google Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com). You can also learn more about Google's practices at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Industry opt-out tools may also be available through your regional advertising opt-out programmes.
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because there is no common industry standard for how DNT signals should be interpreted, the Service does not currently respond to DNT signals. We will continue to monitor developments in this area. You can still control cookies using the methods described in Section 8.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use, legal or regulatory requirements, or our practices. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice via the Service. Your continued use of the Service after an update takes effect indicates your acceptance of the revised policy, subject to any consent that is required by law.
